A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly slashing another man at a Brooklyn subway station, NYPD officials said.

Police officers responding to a call about an assault at the 53rd Street subway station on the R line in Sunset Park around 1 p.m. found a 33-year-old man with multiple cuts throughout his body, officials said. Emergency responders transported him to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities said they took Crown Heights resident Caleb Polidore into custody at the scene. He was charged with assault, weapons possession, menacing and harassment, the NYPD said.

Polidore and the 33-year-old had gotten into an argument near the station’s turnstiles before the alleged attack, which appears to have involved a box cutter, according to the department. Officials said they were still investigating what the dispute was about.

Polidore's attorney information was not available early Tuesday as he awaited his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court.

Felony assaults in the 72nd Precinct, which includes Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace, have fallen about 10% compared to last year, police data shows. But transit crime in the precinct has risen about 31%, to more than 30 incidents this year through Dec. 28. Citywide, transit crime has declined nearly 5% year over year, while felony assaults remain at roughly the same level, according to the NYPD. Police say 2025 has been the transit system's safest year since 2009, except for the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, when fewer people took transit.
