"I heard the crunch of the train going over the body," one witness to yesterday's F train accident tells the Daily News. The grisly scene unfolded around noon in the East Broadway station, where an unidentified man, who witnesses say appeared to be dizzy, fell onto the tracks. Moments later, a Brooklyn-bound F train "roared" into the station, with the Grim Reaper riding shotgun.
Death was miraculously denied, but the unidentified victim is listed in serious condition at Bellevue. Police say he wasn't carrying identification, but he was conscious after the train ran him over, and told EMTs that he couldn't move. The man's left arm and leg were mangled, yet he was alert as rescue workers got him out from under the train. "He was real lucky," one witness observed. "He just looked in shock and scared."
The accident happened at the same station that a disturbed man shoved an off-duty MTA worker onto the tracks. (You'll recall that in that case, a heroic Good Samaritan rescued the worker before she was harmed.) East Broadway is also one station away from the Delancey F stop, where in 2008 a 55-year-old man fell onto the subway tracks and survived by lying down in the disgusting shallow trough between the rails. We can therefore conclude that if you've got to fall in front of a subway train, you're best bet is to make it the F.
