It was 71 degrees out a year ago today. Twenty years ago the Storm of the Century was raging. On this date in 1888 commuters were walking across a frozen East River. Today? Well, today we've got a mix of sun and clouds and a high near 50. The cold front that passed through the region last night will be followed by a weak surface trough late this afternoon. That passage might be enough to produce a few scattered showers, but nothing major in terms of precipitation. It will, however, usher in cooler air. Look for the low to drop into the lower 30s tonight.

Cooler air will stick around tomorrow, when the high should stick to the upper 30s. With a brisk northwesterly breeze it won't feel nearly that warm. Lots of sun on Friday and high pressure moving eastward will let us warm to the mid 40s.

A weak cold front is expected to arrive late Friday. That might make for a cool, wet St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday. No rain on Sunday but it should be mostly cloudy. The forecasts diverge on the details for early next week. The Weather Service has an especially wishy-washy forecast, predicting a 50% chance of rain or snow on Monday and Tuesday.
