Twitter was first on the scene for all the Linsanity last night as Jeremy Lin, #Linning and #Linsanity became trending terms in NYC (and also in LA!). But among all the celebrities, sports writers, fans and Twitter personalities to weigh in on the Lin phenomenon, no single tweet was more touching than one from fellow Knick Amare Stoudemire, who is currently in Florida mourning the sudden death of his brother Hazell. "Thanks to Jeremy Lin & The Knicks, Y'all help me get my mind off my Bro for a few hours, Thx. Great game guys. Enjoy the win. Travel safe," he tweeted after the game.
As ESPN stats noted, Lin has 89 points through his first three starts, most points "by ANY NBA PLAYER in his first 3 starts since the merger (1976-77)." The Rock was at MSG to witness last night's 38 point explosion: "Incredibly special to sit courtside tonight and witness the emergence of a New York Knick star - Jeremy Lin. #LinSanity." Actor Ken Jeong was almost speechless: "Lin. Wow."
Some tweeters took the opportunity to show off Lin autographs they got in June, others took the chance to make fun of the Knicks ("Jeremy Lin breaks barrier by being the first Knicks player to exceed expectations"), and others went for the low-hanging Lohan fruit: "I love that for the first time in history, #linsanity has nothing to do with a member of the Lohan family."
But no one has been all over the online Linsanity more than Spike Lee, whose Twitter feed has become almost wholly-dominated by Lin-related puns and jokes. Last night, he tweeted after the game, "YO LA,I Betcha Kobe Knows Who Jeremy Lin is NOW. JLin Sliced And Diced Ya ASS FOR 38. Jeremy "Stop Asian Profi-" Lin.And Dat's Da Truth,Ruth." All week, he and his followers have been coming up with more and more insane nicknames for Lin—and here, you can see a compilation of 40 of the best of those nicknames. Among our favorites: "Jeremy "I take down my career highs like the walls in Ber-" Lin," "Jeremy "My jumpers cash Benjamin Frank-"Lin," and "Jeremy "I just converted all the Nets fans in Brook-" Lin."
