Crazy guy Joe Lentol (D-Greenpoint) is the latest to court Google for their precious high-speed internet, which would allow the local masses to update their Twitters faster than the rest of the world (as it should be). But just what would he do for a piece of the action? The assemblyman has offered to swim in the highly polluted Newtown Creek. Which... what else do you get the company that has it all?
He told the Daily News, "I used to swim in the Newtown Creek ... and in the East River when I was a kid. It was polluted at that time, if not worse than it is now. I think I can survive." And if he doesn't, well, then they'll definitely have to give us the internet, right?
Google will be testing out their ultra-supersonic-high-speed broadband in just a few communities (if Lentol gets his way it'll go to Greenpoint). It's said to be 100 times faster than most current networks... how many times faster do you think it is than Time Warner?
