A recently disbarred lawyer and his wife were shot while driving on Route 100 Saturday night. Police say Carlos and Peggy Perez-Olivo's SUV was cut off and forced off the road by another car. Carlos Perez-Olivo tried to fend off a man carrying a gun, but the gunman shot his wife in the head. Perez-Olivo was wounded as well, but was able to drive his wife to the hospital. Police are not sure if the shooting was random or targeted.
The Perez-Olivos live in the same cul-de-sac as former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton in Chappaqua. Perez-Olivo was faulted for his handling of Elio Cruz's defense. Cruz was found guilty of killing his wife's lover on a Chelsea subway platform; one juror was replaced after she sent the judge a note critical of Perez-Olivo's performance. Perez-Olivo was "disbarred for misleading and stealing from four other clients," according the NY Law Journal.
