Old Timer's Day at Yankee Stadium is always a special occasion, but Sunday's affair seemed bigger than usual, in part because Joe Torre and Bernie Williams came back for their first Old Timer's Day. Yogi closed the introductions as usual and plenty of former stars highlighted the festivities. On the field, the Yankees overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat Colorado 6-4. Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher went deep and Mariano Rivera, who begged Michael Kay to introduce him as an old timer, showed he still has time on his side by striking out the side to earn his 20th save.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead and then held on to win 8-5, earning a series win. Jose Reyes continued to inflate the value of his future contract with a four-for-five day, scoring 3 runs. Carlos Beltran added 2 RBI's while Daniel Murphy added three hits. Dillon Gee earned his eighth win of the year. For some reason, K-Rod pitched the 9th with a five-run lead and surrendered two runs before closing the door. Rodriguez's $17.5-million option vests if he finished 55 games, so pitching him in this game seems foolish, even if he needs work.
Joel Lindpere scored in the 40th minute for the Red Bulls, but they couldn't hold the lead and settled for a 1-1 draw with Chicago.
