• Jets 37 Cincinnati 0: On a cold and windy night at the Meadowlands, the Jets did exactly what they needed to do, thrashing the Bengals and earning a playoff spot. New York took the opening kickoff and marched down the field for a touchdown with Thomas Jones plunging in for a touchdown. After forcing the Bengals to go three and out, the Jets added a field goal to go up 10-0. Brad Smith had a 32-yard touchdown run to make it 17-0 and Jerricho Cotchery hauled in a touchdown pass from Mark Sanchez to make it 24-0. The Bengals turned the ball over to the Jets in the waning seconds of the first half and New York added a field goal to go up 27-0 at the half.
That lead and the fact that a Jets victory meant that these two teams will play again next week in Cincinnati led to a conservative second half from both teams. Jones added another rushing touchdown and the defense preserved the shutout. The Jets’ wild card game, is scheduled for 4:30 on Saturday.
  • Knicks 132 Indiana 89: The Knicks had their best game of the year, coming out hot and staying that way for all four quarters. New York racked up 74 points by the half and had a lead of 48 points at one point in the game. Wilson Chandler had 23 points while David Lee added 22 points and 16 rebounds.
  • Minnesota 44 Giants 7: Heads have to roll after this disaster in which Minnesota made the Giants look like a high school team. The Vikings only punted once in the first half as they racked up 31 points against a Giants’ defense that clearly had packed it in for the year. It’s seems certain that Bill Sheridan will get the axe, but the problem is much deeper. A lot of those players quit today and there have to be consequences for that.
