• Cardinals 6, Mets 4: Daniel Murphy had two nightmarish moments in this game. In the first inning, he gets picked off first base. The Mets would score one run in the inning but could have had four. In the eighth inning and the game tied, 4-4, Murphy slips and turns what should have been a Brendan Ryan lineout into a triple. The Cardinals score two and go on to the win. Oliver Perez gave back a 4-0 lead and didn't get out of the fifth. J.J. Putz, who got no help from his defense (read: Murphy). took the loss.
  • Yankees 5, Athletics 3: One team took care of business. Andy Pettitte rolled after his team gave him a four-run lead after two innings. Johnny Damon hit a no-doubt home run late, and Mariano Rivera closed another game for Pettitte. His 57 saves for Pettitte ties the Major League mark. Wednesday brings a matinee finale to the rain-shortened two-game series.
  • Hurricanes 4, Devils 3: Just 0.2 seconds separated these teams from a third straight overtime game. But Jussi Jokinen deflected a goal in, and now this series is tied 2-2 heading back to Newark. Martin Brodeur was less than pleased after the goal was upheld on review. The Devils, who trailed in this game 3-0, got goals from Brian Gionta, Brendan Shanahan and David Clarkson in a stretch of nine minutes, 14 seconds between the second and third period. Game 4 is on Thursday.
