The Mets hit two grand slams on their way to a 14-3 pasting of the Tigers. Daniel Murphy and Angel Pagan hit back-to-back doubles in the first to give New York a 2-0 lead. New York blew the game open with a 7-run fourth, highlighted by Jason Bay's grand slam. An inning later, Carlos Beltran matched him with his own grand slam to put the Mets up 13-0. Jose Reyes finished the night 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. R.A. Dickey pitched seven innings of three-run ball to earn his fourth win of the year.

The Yankees gave Zach Greinke a brutal reminder of American League baseball as they knocked him out of the game after he surrendered seven runs in only two innings. Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher both homered and had 4 RBi's while Freddy Garcia improved to 7-6 with the 12-2 victory.

The Red Bulls advanced to the US Open Cup Quarterfinal Round with a 2-1 win over FC New York.
