  • Islanders 4 Rangers 3 (Shootout): This was not a game for fans of goaltenders. Henrik Lundqvist was terrible, Wade Dubielewicz was too but better when it counted and the Islanders prevailed in a sloppy game.

Blake Comeau got things started when he scored by throwing the puck off of Michal Rozsival to put the Islanders in front. The Rangers tied things up when Nigel Dawes scored on the power play, but they gave it right back when Sean Bergenheim scored 41 seconds later. The Islanders made it 3-1 thanks to Trent Hunter, but the Rangers closed to 3-2 thanks to Chris Drury.

Ryan Callahan scored a short-handed goal to tie the game at 3 and after a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Nigel Dawes scored in the second round, but Bill Guerin did as well. The shootout went to a sixth round after Tom Renney curiously used Michal Rozsival in Round 5 and when Martin Straka missed and Jeff Tambellini scored the Islanders had a big two points.

  • Devils 4 Toronto 1: New Jersey scored two goals in about 90 seconds during the third period to turn a tight game into an easy win. Martin Brodeur was brilliant in goal, stopping 41 shots and leading the Devils to the win.
  • Spurs 81 Nets 70: This was simply ugly as both teams struggled to score. In the end the best player on the court, Tim Duncan, rose to the occasion and led San Antonio to victory with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Igawa and some other guys are perfect: Sure it was only five innings and mostly against AAA players, but Phil Hughes, Scott Patterson, Kei Igawa and Billy Traber pitched five perfect innings in the Yankees 2-0 victory on Tuesday. Igawa has now shown that the $46-million the Yankees invested in him was worth it.
