Over 20 students at Manhattan Middle School just took the state English exams earlier this month after spending an entire year without an English teacher. The school claims they didn't have an English teacher on staff, and forged report cards saying teacher Mildred Taylor had graded them for English. Originally, Taylor had been hired to teach Humanities, but the school assigned her to teach English since they had no one else. She told NBC New York, "I grieved it and my union said I didn't have to teach it." The school then began using her Humanities grades as English grades.
