Curbed has been following the saga of the out-of-service escalators at a Union Square subway station entrance and now the escalators are being encased in sheet rock, which is certainly much fancier than the plastic yellow fencing and sign that says "Unauthorized Personnel Not Allowed." In other subway entrance news, the MTA opened two new subway entrances at Columbus Circle--these only have stairs though.
