[UPDATE BELOW] Natavia Lowery
's trial has come to a close after four weeks, and the jury is currently deliberating where this young lady will go next! In 2007 she was accused of killing her boss—real estate agent to the stars and former manager of the Ramones—Linda Stein. Since then it's been a long road that's included confessions, retracted confessions, yoga sticks, ninjas, and so much more.
Yesterday in the courtroom, Lowery's lawyer Thomas Giovanni re-enacted what he believed the murder of Stein looked like. The NY Times reports back saying he was "crouching and smacking the floor 22 times to represent the number of times she was struck while on the ground. As Mr. Giovanni did this, one of Ms. Stein’s daughters, Samantha, sitting in the gallery, broke down and hurried out, her younger sister, Mandy, following close behind."
According to the Daily News, the jury must now decide if Lowery is "guilty of intentional murder, which carries a 25-year sentence," or manslaughter.
Earlier this month we were the first to report that Lowery's pants were different in the surveillance video that was being shown during the trial—later a commenter pointed out that the difference was they were turned inside out. Until that point the prosecution hadn't mentioned this, though we're told that they, and the NYPD, were on to the damning detail long ago.
UPDATE: The jury has convicted Lowery of second-degree murder. It was the top charge against Lowery, and she now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, City Room reports.
