Men who've been charged for soliciting prostitutes in Brooklyn have an option: court and possible jail time, or a $350 fine and images of "diseased genitalia." The Post recently attended the Brooklyn DA's "john school" (actual name: Project Respect), which has only a 1% recidivism rate, in part thanks to its lectures from prosecuting attorneys and a former HIV-positive prostitute. “When I heard about the class, I was relieved. [A prostitution bust] is not something I want on my record,” 25-year-old Adrian Caesar said, seemingly fine with the Post reporting that he got busted soliciting an undercover officer "minutes after he dropped his girlfriend off" at her apartment.
“The majority of the people are in the transportation industry: truck drivers, bus drivers, cabdrivers, because they’re in cars and can pull right over," Rhonnie Jaus, the Brooklyn DA's office sex-crimes chief said. The paper notes that the 50 men who attended last week included a Bridge and Tunnel cop, an ex-Marine, and an ambulette driver. “You learn things now you didn’t know then. You think twice about having sex with an outside girl," the latter said. But maybe the Brooklyn DA's office should be instructing the NYPD to stop confiscating condoms from the city's sex workers.
