Panamanian tourists were spared the indignity of a livery cab scam when the family's 17-year-old son grabbed the wheel of a Lincoln Town Car and crashed it into a guardrail.
The Sosa family had just exited JFK from Panama City when Bhupinder Singh offered them a ride. "We followed him, entered the car, but we had a bad hunch about it," the teenager Aldo Sosa told the Daily News. Turns out he was right, as PA police recognized Singh for being arrested six times on charges related to driving a taxi without a license. Police tried to block Singh's car, but he backed up and drove around them, which is when Sosa, sitting in the front seat, grabbed the wheel.
“I took the shift and the steering wheel and we started to fight for control of the car. I finally got the car over to the side of the road and we hit the rail.” Singh attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended. The family suffered minor injuries from the crash. “I felt like I was in a movie,” Sosa said. "It’s our first time in New York and we never thought anything like this would ever happen. Nothing like this ever happens in Panama." Sounds like someone may have earned the right to walk in the New Yorkers lane.
