A worker at Japan's damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant collapsed and died from an apparent heart attack "unrelated to radiation," the Times reports. It's the first death at the plant since the March 11th earthquake and subsequent tsunami put the plant on the brink of a meltdown.
The man, "who was in his 60s," died while carrying heavy equipment and was wearing a suit and a mask that protected him from dangerous levels of radiation. Temporary workers who have labored to keep the reactors under control have face horrifying working conditions, with some only able to work a handful of hours each day due to the extreme levels of radiation. We will keep our eyes peeled for references to this tragedy in the next powerpoint produced by Indian Point CEO.
