Last month 33-year-old Brit-born Brooklynite Solange Raulston was struck and killed by a truck while biking on Nassau Avenue (at the intersection of McGuinness Blvd) in Greenpoint.

Since the incident, there has been a lot of chatter about what has been called the most dangerous intersection in North Brooklyn — and now Streetsblog says that the NYPD is withholding information regarding the accident, making it impossible to learn how the deadly crash happened and determine culpability. They've even denied FOIL requests.

What is known is that Raulston was sideswiped by the truck, both heading west on Nassau. The driver stayed on the scene and faces no criminal charges. Regarding all traffic accidents, Transportation Alternatives told them: "We've found that the amount of data that's collected at the scene, especially when it comes to bikers and walkers, is insufficient. They don't include a box to note the travel speeds of vehicles before the crash. There's nothing to record if the driver had a suspended or revoked license. There's no specific space to record roadway characteristics or street design. There's nothing that prompts them to automatically look for a truck route sign, bike lane, or other feature."

Interesting point... because there actually is a sign where Raulston was killed by the truck specifying the area is not a truck route!
