Geek Life

nerd.jpgWe've long pictured (or have been - come on, admit it) the wheezy, sneezy nerd in the playground who just seems to get easily winded during sports, has that daily nose bleed, or is just too skinny. Well, despite these stereotypes, it seems that geeks may actually have their own constellation of health problems that plague them into adulthood. An internist on carotids.com, an internet health message board, who cares for a large techie demographic, recently wrote about ailments that seem to pop up more often in those fettered to their computers. Common problems include: Insomnia and poor sleep, headaches, back pain, and poor attention span. We'd like to add the carpal tunnel syndrome we've been getting from this damn mouse. But then we would be admitting to being geeks. We wonder what kind of health problems jocks get?

Wide Load

2006_4_health_bigbaby.jpgAs the steady expansion of the American waistline continues unabated, it was only a matter of time before the calories began to trickle down. The Daily News reported this week that about 5% of 3-year-olds are too fat to fit into the standard car seat. Parents who want to travel with their tubby toddlers have to spring for more expensive models that can fit the fatsoes. According to the News, these seats can go for as much as $270 a pop. Not to mention the obvious safety issue of parents making sure they buy a seat that is well-sized to protect their little butterballs in an accident.
