That crazy plume of volcanic ash from an Icelandic glacier is still causing problems for air travelers around the world, but especially in Europe. And, as CBS reports, "The volcano in Iceland is still erupting, spewing out columns of heavy smoke and ash, and officials said it's showing no sign of letting up." Eurocontrol says, "Forecasts suggest that the cloud of volcanic ash will persist and that the impact will continue for at least the next 24 hours."
The Post trekked back to JFK Airport and says it "looked more like a refugee camp than a major airline hub yesterday as stranded travelers sprawled out on cots while flights to northern Europe remained grounded for the second day... Crickets chirped around shuttered check-in stations as frustrated passengers -- waiting for word on when they might be able to get home -- lounged around a cot city set up in Terminal 4." One 70-year-old man who was headed to Ireland said, "I understand the circumstance -- it's an act of God. But this has taken 10 years off my life." Another traveler heading to London was a little more foreful, "This is more than a little inconvenient. I've been told I can't leave until Monday. I slept here last night -- one night is about enough, but four? I'll be tearing my hair out. It's not the airlines' fault, but still!"
