As more and more of his Democratic colleagues have called for his head on an invisible skewer, Rep. Anthony Weiner has delayed making a decision on whether to resign until he could consult with his pregnant wife. Today, Huma Abedin returned to Washington from an overseas trip with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. And she's back just in time to see new embarrassing photos of Weiner in bras and pantyhose, as well as porn star Ginger Lee's public airing of her Weiner sexts.
The National Enquirer had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get some new angle on the Weiner saga—but none of these new photos were sexts. They published the photo of Weiner in a bra and pantyhose on the cover of their issue this week, along with another one inside with him in y-fronted swimming trunks in front of a Christmas tree. The pictures were taken by a college friend from the State University of Plattsburgh in 1982, when Weiner was 18.
The classmate described Weiner as a "flamboyant figure" who wore the ladies' undergarments as part of the school's secret Santa festivities: "It was never quite clear whether one of Anthony's challenges was to become a cross-dresser or if it was just some bizarre stunt he decided to do on his own. He was a very odd guy who went out of his way to do things purely for the shock value."
Despite the photos being nothing more than harmless college shots, in this context they are yet more embarrassing publicity for Weiner, who has had nothing but embarrassing moments since he accidentally tweeted a photo of his crotch to Gennette Cordova. To make matters even more awkward, porn star Ginger Lee went into detail with reporters on her sextual relationship with the Congressman this afternoon. With her lawyer Gloria Allred by her side, the "featured dancer" and aspiring real estate agent said that Weiner coached her to lie to reporters: "I think that Anthony Weiner should resign, because he lied to the public and the press for more than a week."
According to Allred, Lee and Weiner exchanged approximately 100 emails, starting in March and ending approximately two weeks ago, but never met in person. And it seems Weiner's favorite word to use was "package." One email read, “I have wardrobe demands too. I need to highlight my package." Another: "Alright, my package and I are not going to beg. We both see the hazard of going down the path of comparative sexiness." And yet another: "You aren't giving my package due credit." Watch the whole press conference below:
