The average price of a Christmas tree in New York City is about $119. That’s based on nearly 300 responses from readers who are helping us track the price of pines across the five boroughs this month.

Prices, on average, tend to be cheaper at big box stores like Home Depot and Whole Foods, according to a Gothamist analysis of crowd-sourced data. Tree prices at Home Depot average $63 and $88 at Whole Foods.
“I'm usually a Grinch about the holidays, but my partner loves getting in the Christmas spirit, so the yearly buy is totally worth it,” reader Derrick Dent wrote in his submission.
The most expensive tree so far was $633 for a 9-foot tree in Manhattan and the cheapest was $10 for a 1-foot tree at Trader Joe’s. Manhattan overall had the highest tree prices, with a median price of $120. The Bronx had the lowest median price of $75.
“My mother would faint if she knew how much we paid for this tree,” wrote Angela De Riggi, who paid $190 for her 9-foot-plus tree in Brooklyn.
The average price for 6- to 7-foot trees across the city was $121. The priciest pine of that size was $250 on Bleecker Street and LaGuardia Place, while the lowest was $39 at a Home Depot in Queens.
