New Yorkers live in some teeny tiny apartments (see: the lady in the 90-square-foot apartment) and now so can our tourists! And not just in hostels and Craigslist rentals. As most old-school SROs have mostly faded from town, hoteliers are slowly stepping in to fill the gap. First there were the Pod and the Jane hotels and now, starting this summer, the area West of Times Square is getting in on the action, too. Anyone want to spend $150 to spend a night in a 167-square-foot room?
The new 669-room Yotel opening on 42nd Street and 10th Avenue in June claims to offer "everything you might find in a luxury hotel in under 200 square feet," including queen-size beds, TVs and showers. And according to the website it will also have a robot (a "yobot") which will help you drop off and retrieve your luggage. ("It's fun, efficient and only the beginning of baggage management..."—trust us, we've e-mailed to try and find out more).
Considering a 50-square-foot room in the Jane (which, like the Yotel, prefers to call rooms "cabins") costs $100 a night, the Yotel prices don't seem too bad. Bonus: You don't have to share a bathroom. And anyway, who wants to actually stay in their hotel? There's a metropolis to see!
