Aliyah Austin, the 16-year-old girl who kidnapped her 29-year-old friend's three-year-old daughter after he smacked her for eating his last Hot Pocket on Valentine's Day is going to jail. The baby-snatching transient will be spending 60 days locked up after she pleaded guilty today to a misdemeanor count of endangering a child’s welfare.
Austin will also be put on probation for three years for taking the child, whom she was supposed to be babysitting in exchange for a place to stay.
While most of the details of the case are as they were last month, two wrinkles did emerge in court: First, Austin apparently met the little girls father on a Brooklyn subway days before the incident (that's where we meet all of our live in nannies). Second, when the father smacked Austin over eating his last Hot Pocket it wasn't—as we'd imagined for no particular reason—something that happend in the kitchen or what have you. According to Austin he actually came and woke her up to smack her, which was what made her so angry she took his child the next afternoon while he was at work.
