A football star at Truman High School in the Bronx was fatally stabbed in a parking lot fight just hours after graduating yesterday afternoon. Isayah Muller, a 19-year-old running back who led his team to the PSAL championships last fall, was with his family when the tragic fight broke out. According to the Daily News, it started after his father, Andre Muller, accused one of the parking lot attendants of stealing some expensive cologne from his car.
The family had picked up the car after graduation ceremonies at Lehman College and were reportedly en route to a celebration dinner on City Island when Andre Muller noticed the missing cologne. NYPD spokesperson Paul Browne tells the AP that Muller turned the car around to angrily confront the attendants, and the situation quickly became violent. It's unclear who killed Isayah, but during the fight he was stabbed in the side and in the heart. His family rushed him to a nearby clinic and he was then taken by ambulance to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
So far the only person charged by police has been Isayah's father, who was brought in for questioning along with the lot attendants. Andre Muller is not accused of killing his son, but he is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Muller's grandmother tells the News, "Neither of [the Mullers] were armed. [Andre Muller] picked up a shovel and snapped one of them with it and broke his arm." Police sources tell the Post they're investigating the possibility the attendants "acted in self defense."
After rushing 285 yards and scoring two touchdowns to defeat top-seeded Beach Channel for the title last November, Isayah told ESPN, "I really wasn't tired. This is my last game of my high school career. I didn't want to take one step off that field. I'm still not tired. I could play the whole game all over again." He was set to attend Nassau Community College in the fall. A family friend tells the News, "He'd say to his mom, 'When I get in the NFL, I'm going to take care of you and the kids."
