It appears that Williamsburg's Hipster Lake has only a little while longer to saturate McCarren Park's ground with weird algae-toned water: the Parks Department says they've started renovating the park to rid it of the notorious puddle, and expect to finish this summer.
The plan to kill Hipster Lake once and for all was proposed by Councilman Steve Levin last year, and calls for a $930,000 pathway and park entrance renovation that will hopefully keep the water at bay. No news yet on whether or not a section of the park will be closed during the renovation, though kickball and softball enthusiasts will surely rejoice at the prospect of dry game space. We can't say the same for the hordes of tiny Hunter Rainboot-wearing yupster children that have turned the puddle into an impromptu pool over the years, but they do have a real one of those, now—though it's not necessarily much cleaner.
