Yesterday, Caroline Giuliani graduated from her private high school, and the tabloids were on hand to note the seating arrangement: Mother Donna Hanover, step-dad Ed Oster, and brother Andrew Giuliani were sitting near the front, while father Rudy Giuliani and step-mom Judi Nathan sat in the balcony.
The Post points out that Rudy and Donna, whose marriage broke down during Giuliani's second term as mayor, never spoke, but that when commencement speaker Senator Charles Schumer noted that Rudy was in the house (or church - graduation was held at Crenshaw Church) "the audience broke into applause, Hanover and her son, Andrew Giuliani, sat stone-faced and didn't clap." Rudy and Judi left 10 minutes before the ceremonies ended.
Caroline Giuliani told the Daily News, "This is a great day. I am celebrating with my mom, my stepfather [Ed Oster], my brother and other family friends." She will be attending Harvard this fall (and apparently didn't tell her dad she got in when she was accepted!). Giuliani never attended Andrew's graduation and apparently missed a number of his children's events. A recent New York magazine story mentioned how Giuliani referred to his step-daughter as his child, but he didn't seem to mention his children with Hanover.
It'll be interesting to see whether his presidential campaign will force Giuliani to mend ties with his children and ex-wife. There seem to be some serious grudges.
