Newt Gingrich is well behind Mitt Romney in the polls for tonight's Florida primary, so the former Speaker has an ingenious method of invoking Godwin's law, politics-style. Robo-calls paid for by Gingrich's campaign have been calling voters and telling them that Romney axed Kosher meals for Holocaust victims during his tenure has Massachusetts' governor.

While Romney did slash $600,000 in funds for Kosher meals for Jewish nursing home residents in 2003, the funds were restored by the legislature. Gingrich is just betting that there are a few Holocaust survivors in Massachusetts' Jewish nursing homes. A Gingrich spokesman confirmed that the ad was official, while a Romney aide told the Huffington Post, “It’s sad to see Speaker Gingrich lashing out in a desperate attempt to try and save his floundering campaign."

All of this is pretty reprehensible, but so is the amount of ads run by supposedly non-affiliated Super PACs: there's a 1,600% increase in ads paid for by the groups compared to the pre-Citizens United days of 2008, according to a study conducted by the Wesleyan Media Project. In Florida alone, the pro-Romney PAC, Restore Our Future, has placed 12,768 ads compared to 210 for Gingrich and his supportive Super PAC.

Obama will have a Super PAC (Priorities USA Action) at his disposal in the general election as well, along with the $68 million his campaign raised in the 4th Quarter. And this could go on, and on, and on...
