New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl was arrested last night for DWI after he slammed his BMW into several parked cars on an Astoria street at around 8:20 p.m. Based on several of Diehl's tweets and a photo posted by a fan on Instagram, it appears Diehl was watching Croatia defeat Ireland on the pitch shortly before the crash at Scorpio's, five blocks from the crash scene. A source tells the Post that Diehl blew a .18 on a Breathalyzer—more than twice the legal limit.

The 31-year-old lineman was recently named the NFL's Man of the Year several weeks ago, and is known for his charity work as well as his exemplary play. The Giants have not commented, but Diehl's agent, Peter Schaffer, told the Daily News that his client was "one of, if not the classiest, most humble…New York Giants ever."

Diehl is expected to be formally charged today. Though a DWI is a violation of the NFL's substance abuse and personal conduct policies, it would be Diehl's first offense, and he is not likely to receive a suspension. He has two years remaining on his six-year, $31 million contract with the Giants.
