Yesterday, a 25-year-old Brooklyn man who downed a Four Loko before getting behind in the wheel two years ago was convicted of manslaughter (though not aggravated vehicular homicide) and is facing up to 15 years in prison.
In November 2010, Anel Kolenovic ran a red light in Midwood and slammed his car into one driven by 25-year-old yeshiva teacher Moshe Berkowitz, killing Berkowitz and injuring his female passenger. Yesterday Brooklyn Supreme Court found Kolenovic guilty of manslaughter in the second degree. Despite the fact he had drunk the boozey "energy drink" Four Loko, he managed to evade the top charge in the case—saving him a potential extra ten years behind bars.
Kolenovic, who had been free on $400,000 bond, was immediately taken into custody yesterday.
