Former WABC 7 sportscaster Dr. Marvell Scott was charged with second-degree rape for an "alleged encounter with a 14-year-old prostitute" in 2008. According to the Journal News, Scott turned himself into the Manhattan DA's office and will be arraigned later. His lawyer says that Scott has been cooperating with the prosecutors, adding, "This is nothing but a shakedown by the prostitute and her pimp."

Scott had been a sportscaster for WABC 7 beginning in 2001, but then in late April 2009, he was mysteriously absent from his job, later saying he was on vacation. By June, Scott decided to quit TV and concentrate on his other career as a doctor, telling the Daily News that he underwent some "deep soul-searching When you go through situations, it's always a good thing. It forces you to reevaluate your life—personally, professionally and spiritually."

This past fall, he spotted as an assistant team physician for Rutgers' football team, saying he left TV because "it also reached the point where my medical career started to suffer, and that’s what I want to devote all of my time to now." And earlier this month, Scott called Newsday's Neil Best from Haiti, where he was treating those injured from the earthquake.
