High pressure over the Atlantic will bring sunny skies and a range of temperatures to the region today. Most of us will see highs in the lower 60s this afternoon, but if you're right along the coast the cool ocean breeze will keep the temperature in the upper 50s at best. On the flip side, away from the ocean's influence northern New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley could warm to the upper 60s.
Clouds slowly build up starting tonight as an upper-level trough arrives a few hours ahead of an approaching surface cold front. That combination of events will likely produce a few rain showers late tomorrow afternoon and perhaps a thunderstorm or two west of the city by early Tuesday evening. So far April has been a dry month so no complaints on a bit of rain. A southerly breeze should warm things up to the upper 60s.
The cold front passage presages a blustery and cool Wednesday. Although clear skies are expected, the sun won't be strong enough to counter the cool Canadian air arriving on a strong northwesterly breeze, Wednesday's high will be stuck in the upper 50s. The Weather Channel says Thursday will still be windy, but that doesn't make sense if high pressure is overhead, so we're siding with the National Weather Service which is forecasting a sun-filled day and a high in the lower 60s.
