Check out this DIY luggage project gone horribly wrong! Somehow, two-and-a-half pounds of cocaine ended up in a traveler's suitcase hand rails.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, passenger Chevelle Rusheen Nesbeth had just arrived on a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica to John F. Kennedy Airport. During an inspection, CBP officers "felt an unusually dense hand rail in each suitcase." During a search in a private room, the CBP then "discovered a white powdery substance which tested positive for cocaine." The street value of the cocaine is over $45,000.
Nesbeth was arrested for importation of a controlled substance, and now Homeland Security is heading up the investigation. Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP Field Operations New York, said, "This latest seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our CBP officers, and their excellence in detecting those who would try to smuggle these illegal substances."
