Investigators say that Flight 1549 lost both its engines' power at the same time on Thursday afternoon. The US Airways Airbus A320 ended up in the Hudson River after an apparent bird strike.
According to the NY Times, "The cockpit voice recording ...captured both the sound of an impact on the US Airways jet, presumably by birds, and the efforts of a crew that was going through what a senior investigator called a 'very calm, collected exercise,' even though they were gliding lower and had no way to reach a runway." The recording also appears to support Captain Chesley Sullenberger's and his crew's accounts of what happened. NTSB member Kitty Higgins said, "The miracle happened because a lot of everyday things happened... People did their jobs. Everything happened because people were trained for years."
The search for the missing left engine (the right engine was found when the plane was recovered) has been suspended until tomorrow, due to ice floes. And the plane was taken to Jersey City, where it will be disassembled in a marine yard and taken to another location, the Post reports.
