Five arrests have been made in connection with Saturday night's bar brawl at The Kettle Black in Bay Ridge. Officers believe John DeCarlo, who is either 22 or 26, initiated the melee between an off-duty NYPD officer and a group of other bar patrons by smashing a bottle over the officer's head. He has been charged with charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

One of the other men charged is 23-year-old Danny Golden, the nephew of Brooklyn state senator Martin Golden. Michael Crowley, 20, Kevin Crowley, 23, and Peter Jung, 23, were also arrested. One of Golden's neighbors told the Daily News, "It's not a shock that they had a fight. They're boisterous guys."

The five arrested are allegedly responsible for a Port Authority officer's and firefighter's injuries; the PA officer will need his jaw wired shut, and the firefighter lost a pint and a half of blood after an artery was slashed in his arm, reportedly leaving a pool of blood on the sidewalk. However, one of the men's insists the officers were the aggressors in the fight. He says they were "very intoxicated" and first smashed a bottle over his client's head. Police allegedly found knives at the scene, including one "at DeCarlo's feet."
