Beer pong can kill. A drinking game turned into a Memorial Day tragedy when a New Jersey volunteer firefighter yesterday was stabbed early yesterday morning. William Walker, 21, was killed at a Cherry Hill houseparty during a beer pong dispute. Maybe the SLA is right to be wary of the game?
Walker, a second generation fireman who was training to be an EMT, reportedly got into an argument with 19-year-old Naqueebullah Habibi over the game Beirut late Sunday night. Though it initially seemed to have been resolved, the disagreement bubbled back to the surface as the party was ending and the two men ended up fist fighting while leaving the house party around 2 a.m.. It was at that point that Habibi reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Walker in the chest.
Walker was declared dead a short time later at Cooper University Hospital. Police have charged Habibi with murder and he is currently being held on $750,000 bail.
Cherry Hill Fire Chief Robert Giorgio told the Courier-Post that Walker, whose father and younger brother are also involved in the department, was "the kind of kid that would watch what's going on and look for opportunities to lend a hand...It's just hard to get your head around the chain of events that happened here."
