A commuter ferry crossing the Hudson River from Edgewater, N.J. caught fire this morning around 9:30. A spokesperson for New York Waterway tells City Room the boat’s engine overheated and caught fire about five minutes after the boat, the Moira Smith, departed with 27 souls aboard. The crew promptly turned the ferry around and was able to dock her back in Edgewater, where the New York Fire Department arrived with fast-response boats. The passengers then took another boat to Manhattan after they got off the flaming ferry.
