A Metro-North rider was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a conductor on a New Haven Line train earlier today.
According to the MTA, the incident, which occurred on the 10:04 a.m. train from Grand Central, happened around 11:15 a.m.: A customer on the train said he didn't have enough cash for the fare, so the conductor asked him to exit at the Westport, Connecticut stop. The MTA statement says, "In so doing, words were exchanged and the customer apparently pushed or shoved the conductor out of the train while it was stopped at Westport. The conductor landed on his left hand and suffered abrasions to his hand."
The suspect fled but was eventually caught by Westport Police, who then handed him over the MTA police.
Because of the incident, the train was taken out of service and all the customers had to be re-boarded on the next train, resulting in a 40 minute delay. The MTA adds, "There were no weapons, no punches thrown. The conductor declined medical attention."
