Efrain Gonzalez Jr., who lost his 2008 Bronx State Senate primary to...Pedro Espada Jr., was sentenced for 7 years in prison for "conspiracy and fraud. Prosecutors said he had stolen [over $700,000] from nonprofit groups to cover personal expenses." The judge said, "He has brought public disgrace onto himself and onto the state Senate." The "portly" Gonzalez rolled his eyes and later said he'd appeal the sentence and added, "We Hispanics, we have to unite. It's not fair what they're doing to us. I feel like an illegal immigrant."
