Someone attempted to convince Brooklyn Tech students, parents, and teachers that the school was closed until further notice by sending a spoof email using the assistant principal's account. The phony email claimed that a construction accident in the basement had caused "a serious safety hazard for anyone that comes near or inside the school," according to the Times.
"Normally we would make a call for this, but we are not allowed to access any of the machines inside of the building," continued the message, which appeared to have been sent by Assistant Principal Marc Williams. "I ask that you send this to every fellow Technite you know, so that we can spread this as fast as possible and avoid confusion."
After learning of the mass email — which might have been created using a prank website like fakesend.com — Principal Randy Asher had automated phone messages sent to parents and posted news of the hoax on Facebook, while Williams wrote this response on the school's website: the school's website: "I was just made aware of a fake message that seemingly was sent by me stating that the school will be closed tomorrow. That message is FALSE."
