The off-duty Jersey City cop who killed a woman and injured her boyfriend while driving drunk has been sentenced to 3.5 to 10.5 years in prison. "There's not a day that goes by that I wish I could trade my life for the victim's," said Martin Abreu, 26. "Everyday I live this. I'm going to live it for the rest of my life."

Last February, Abreu struck 26-year-old NYU Law grad Marilyn Feng and her 26-year-old boyfriend Dennis Loffredo on West Street as they returned to Battery Park City after spending the evening tango dancing. Abreu pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular manslaughter for running over the couple, reportedly while driving at more than twice the speed limit with a blood alcohol level of .124 (the legal limit is .08). "It's hard for me to imagine" someone would "drink like this, get behind the wheel and drive," said the judge, according to the Daily News. "What's equally troubling is he was a police officer."

Prosecutors pushed for a sentence of 5 to 15 years. According to the Post, Feng was her parents' only child due to China's governmental policy. "The pain of losing our only child will never go away," they wrote in a statement read in court. Abreu's mother had blamed Feng for the collision, claiming: "So my son went out and had a couple of drinks. He deserves to have a good time now and then."
