The New York City medical examiner’s office was investigating on Wednesday after a man was found dead and decomposing on the side of the Clearview Expressway in Queens, according to the NYPD.

Police said a passerby spotted the body in the grass around 9 a.m. on Tuesday near the Union Turnpike exit. Some news reports indicated a driver spotted the body after pulling over due to a mechanical issue and called 911.

NYPD officials said the man’s hands were bound but he had no obvious signs of trauma to his body. Emergency medical workers pronounced him dead on the scene.

They said they still did not know the man’s identity or age, as they waited for more information from the medical examiner about the cause of death.
