Police are searching for a woman who allegedly tried to scam a 70-year-old taxi driver out of a free ride and then beat him up at the end of last month.

The incident happened on January 31st around 4:30 p.m. when the suspect got into the cab at 158th Street and Broadway in Washington Heights. The woman asked to be taken to Times Square, but while on the West Side Highway near 56th Street, she apparently became enraged that the driver "had put the meter on."

The taxi's security camera captured her screaming at the driver from the backseat (see the photo above). Cops say that the suspect then beat the driver, punching him in the face, and fled the vehicle without paying.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
