The NYPD is hoping for the public's help in finding this grand larceny suspect who struck at a Midtown jewelry store.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 15, 2011 at around 11:20 a.m. at Italian Elegant Jewelry (55 West 47th Street) in Manhattan. The suspect walked into the store and request to see "heavy gold chains." Police say that the saleswoman took out chains for the suspect to peruse but when she turned away, he took the jewelry, shoved it in his pants, and fled.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 60-70 years old, with short salt and pepper hair. He was wearing a dark overcoat. The incident happened well over a year ago, so it's unclear why the NYPD is notifying the public about about it now. An NYPD spokesman declined to comment on the timing of this release, so for now just be sure to clutch your Mega Boss Necklace tightly if you find yourself in a dark alley with a man who looks like he wandered out of a Coen brothers movie.
