The death of a four-year-old boy in a Midtown apartment is now being investigated by the police.
According to the NYPD, they responded to a 911 call at 10:50 a.m. today regarding an unconscious boy at 235 West 48th Street located. When officers arrived, they found the boy unresponsive and took him to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boy was apparently in the care of a babysitter. WCBS 2 reports that she told cops that "she had put him on the bathroom counter and left the room briefly. Police say the woman told them that the boy fell off the counter and landed in the empty bathtub."
The National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus "Bathroom safety" entry says, "To prevent accidents in the bathroom, never leave your child alone in the bathroom. Keep bathrooms closed when they are not being used."
