Police may need to run DNA tests on blood found inside an Acura Legend that struck two pedestrians in Brooklyn, injuring both, at Flatbush and Prospect Place. The car's owner Cindy Jasmin was suspected as the hit-and-run driver involved in the incident, but Jasmin claims her sister was actually driving the car.
According to the Post, "Blood found inside the battered car is believed to belong to the driver, who may have been cut when the windshield on the driver's side was pushed back from the impact." However, sources tell the Daily News, "The blood inside the car may have seeped in from the front of the shattered windshield, where victim Erinn Phelan was hit." Phelan, a 22-year-old working in the mayor's volunteerism initiative, is reportedly in a coma with severe brain injuries at Kings County Hospital, while her friend Alma Guerrero, 23, is recovering with a broken collarbone.
Jasmin's lawyer claims that her sister Frances, who apparently has a "smattering of driving violations," had been driving the car and needed to be checked into a hospital because she was so distraught after hitting the women. And the Post reports, "Cops said the driver was driving 42 mph along Flatbush Avenue and had the green light when the two friends were crossing."
