Police are busy investigating the unrelated fatal shootings of two teens, one in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan. The first victim was Carlton Bright, 19, who was shot in the gut outside a friend's house in Crown Heights after reportedly trying to break up a fight. His step-father, Donald Oates, told the Daily News, "The fight continued and he kept trying to squash it—and then some kid pulled a gun and shot him in the gut."

Shortly after 1 a.m., 17-year-old Cheyenne Baez was fatally shot in the back while sitting in her East Harlem building's courtyard. The Post reports she was shot in a drive-by shooting, and told her friends "I'm cold. I think I was shot," according to Taisha Velez. Baez was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. A 30-year-old man was found a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to his thigh, and one witness said, It had something to do with [another girl and an] old boyfriend-new boyfriend. [Cheyenne] had nothing to do with it."

In a related anecdote, police say a group of teenagers reportedly descended upon a Range Rover believed to be the gunman's vehicle, slashing the tires and smashing the windows before walking past police and disappearing. No arrests have been made in either case.
