Police have arrested the driver they say left a 15-year-old cyclist in critical condition in Woodlawn on Saturday evening.

Around 9:30 p.m. that night, police found the teenager lying on East 233rd Street near Jerome Avenue with severe head trauma; he was later transported to Jacobi Hospital. The driver who had struck him fled the scene in a grey sedan.

The boy's friend later told the Post, "My friend was crossing and when [the driver] turned he hit him."

The Daily News reports that Kabiru Mohammed, a 37-year-old resident of Mount Vernon, gave police a written statement that he had struck the teenager and fled the scene and driven home. He has been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident.

An NYPD spokeswoman said this afternoon that there are no updates on the teenager's condition. On Sunday, a 43-year-old male cyclist was struck and killed by the driver of a U-Haul at the intersection of 158th Street and Grand Concourse; no criminality is suspected.
