A high end pet apparel boutique, Chien Bizarre of Copenhagen, has decided to put dead animals on living animals. Enter: the mink coat for dogs. The brand claims that fur is better for the environment than "the biodegradable synthetics that most people use in today's disposable fashion." Plus, if their ad campaign is to be believed, you can play dress up and create awkward situations with your dog around your house—like granny walking in on you in the bathroom! But... there's just something very Buffalo Bill about all of this, no?
Patrick Kwan of the Humane Society of the U.S. told us, "It’s pointless cruelty that we and our beloved pets can live without. Buying any fur or fur-trimmed garment supports an inhumane industry that mercilessly kills tens of millions of animals, including domestic dogs and cats, each year—both on purpose and accidentally in traps."
Sandra DeFeo, the executive director of the Humane Society of New York, told the Daily News, "There are so many reasons why putting a fur coat on a dog is a bad idea. A dog already has fur. And if you have a warm-climate dog that is suffering from the cold weather, there are much smarter things to put on him. It's not ethical, really. Killing animals for your dogs to wear, with the way the world's economic climate is going, it's not ethical. It's not even funny."
