A clerk at the Staten Island District Attorney's office was fined for trading information to a drug dealer in order to obtain crack for her husband, the city's Conflict of Interest Board [COIB] announced today.
Rene Collins, 46, sent text messages to a drug dealer soliciting crack for her husband. In exchange, she offered to see if the drug dealer was currently under investigation by the Staten Island District Attorney.
"Hey, its robs wife," Collins texted the drug dealer, according to the Post. "Can u give him 2 on the arm til tomorrow nite nd give him ur full name (real name) nd I will chek it out tomorrow nd let u know if any surprises cummn k.”
The COIB has fined Collins for gathering "confidential information for a convicted drug dealer for the purpose of obtaining drugs for her husband." When the NYPD came to arrest her husband after they witnessed him buying drugs, Collins tried to use her DA identification card in a futile attempt to convince the police to let her husband go. For that action, the COIB has cited her for using her "official District Attorney’s Office identification for the non-City purpose of impeding and preventing the arrest of her husband."
Collins also wasn't very good at covering her tracks, asking the drug dealer to "Pleas delete my texs thanx.” Collins faces a $10,000 fine.
